Torkil Gudnason describes working with animals and jewelry as a visual fleamarket. His stunning images surprise you and make you look twice. In a world with an overwhelming amount of images on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, he stands out with his work. He is a known photographer for Vogue, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar and his artwork has been exhibited by many galleries and museums. I love all of his work, but it’s his jewelry photography that I love most!
Although he lives in New York, Torkil Gudnason’s origins are Danish. He states that it is due to the long dark winters, which he experienced as a child, that caused his attraction to vibrant and electric colors and forms in his photographs.
When I encountered his work, during my research for another blog, I was immediately struck. This is the kind of photography, I personally love. Although the animals seem to be almost unreal in how they accept the jewelry on them, he said in an interview that working with animals is great. They lack ego and are simply thankful when working with them. And full of surprises.
Knowing animals a little, I almost tend to doubt how easy it must have been, but there you go: this man is simply graceful about working with animals.
