The most expensive piece of jewelry ever created for a movie was the necklace in Moulin Rouge. Remember it? It was Nicole Kidman who wore this necklace with such elegance and poise. This necklace had 1,308 diamonds with a total of 134 carats. And it’s worth around, hold your breath:..... 1 million dollars!

This fact triggered me to find out a little bit more about the designer who got *the job* at the times of the movie creating such an iconic piece. It must have created him a lot of publicity and fame too. I am always a little curious what deal has been made. How much actually has been paid for the necklace, what marketing value it had in return for the designer. It’s pure curiosity ;-)

I never heard of this designer before, but Stefano Canturi is an Australian born artisan that has around 4 exclusive points of sale in Australia. It turned out that he holds another record related to jewelry too: he designed the most expensive Barbie doll ever. The doll was created in cooperation with Mattel to mark their 50th anniversary and for a very good cause: The Breast Cancer research foundation.
It was estimated between 300.000-500.000 dollar and it fetched a staggering 302,500 dollar. It may have been on the lower end of the estimation but goshhhh, that is a lot of money for a doll. Even if she wears real and beautiful diamonds! And yes of course, I am curious once again who bought it. Unfortunately for me (and the other curious people amongst us) the bidder has remained anonymous ( arghh). One wonders however if it was bought to support the charity foundation in an unique way or was it a lover of Barbie dolls that dragged her home to cherish her forever in a cabinet amongst the other Barbie’s he or she must have collected. Will he or she play with her? Well, it will remain a mystery I suppose. ;-)

Stefano Canturi has actually made some beautiful jewelry that he sells only through his own boutiques. The man is obviously an artist with a broader view on sculpting and jewelry. You can check out more on his website. Here below are some of his other pieces that are very beautiful indeed.

Another magnificent example of Cubism jewelry
