What my jewel means to me. Meet Margot!

| Esther Ligthart | News & Stories

Margot is vibrant and beautiful with a natural charisma and an enthusiasm that is legendary. She designed her jewel and had it made exactly like she desired. What it means to her? Let's find out!

Meet Margot!

Margot is a mother of two kids and we got to know each other in the schoolyard. She is incredibly outgoing and a source of joy for many as she much as she is for me. She recently moved but as I have lived abroad and have moved so many times, keeping a friendship alive even when not living in the same town anymore, is not a problem for me.

Margot is a funloving and very smart woman with whom I spent hours discussing life, work, balance, our stories, our lives, our hopes. She can dive really deep, something I love too. She is definitely better in small talk than me, but we both have a love for profound conversations that ask for honesty and a little vulnarability too. Something I highly appreciate in her.

Her jewelry and what it means to her

I asked Margot if I could take pictures of her and talk about a piece of jewelry that really meant something to her. She presented this pendant.

''When I was 23, I had this pendant made for me, by my own design. When it was finished, it felt just right! I had chosen a Tiger Eye gemstone, as it stands for balance. What I love about this pendant is that it is completely irregular and it moves! I love that movement. I also reminds me of freedom. The reason I had it designed was because I had ended a relationship and this pendant made me think about moving forward in life, flexibility etc. All together it's about life not being *tight and regular*the layers make me think instead about the depth of life. All of that, is what I see and feel, when I look and wear this pendant''.

She looked up at me, and once more I was moved by what jewelry means in terms of symbolism to people. Sometimes a talisman, sometimes a sweet reminder, but always in touch with our deeper emotions.

Thank you, Margot :-*

That's a lovely post Esther. It really brings out how jewellery can be so personally important to its wearer, and yet to the observer it is something else completely.

Hi Breda! Thank you :-) Yes, true. This is also the reason why I never ever give a negative comment everrr, when someone asks me what I think of their jewelry. I can judge it from a technical point, maybe even a comment about aesthetics, but I hardly ever do, because I KNOW that people have an emotional connection and anything I say, can hurt their feelings. So I don't. The only moment it is appropriate for me ( and you :-) ) to comment, I guess, is when the person is in the process of buying or involved in the designing process. Agree? Have a great weekend, Breda! Thanks for all your ongoing support, I really appreciate it!
